ABG and G4S Win One Year Security Contract Extension for BIAP
Al-Burhan Group and its partner G4S have been awarded a one year contract extension to provide aviation security at Baghdad International Airport (BIAP) by the Iraqi Ministry of Transport (MoT). The cooperation between ABG and G4S-Iraq with the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) and the Iraqi Government started in 2010 and this extension agreement brings the contract period through to a six year term.
ABG and G4S have provided all aspects of the airport’s security services including: project management; operational, logistical and administrative support; physical support for BIAP checkpoints; and a Quick Reaction force. The contract will involve the provision of BIAP aviation security in accordance with Annex 17 of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, the supply of technical information, as well as training for Iraqi staff.
ABG and G4S-Iraq have also worked together to develop the ICAA’s capabilities and international credibility. This shared work has been extremely successful, with Baghdad airport now welcoming close to 2 million visitors every year as well as the majority of the region's leading airlines, including Air Arabia, Egypt Air, Emirates, Etihad, Fly Dubai, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian and Turkish Airlines.
The contract extension speaks volumes about ABG's sincere efforts to turn BIAP into a secure and prosperous airport in order to open the country up for travel, business and investment.
